Shane Clanton Captures His Second LaCrosse Footwear Extreme Tough Challenge Event

CONCORD, N.C. - July 4, 2010 - Shane Clanton powered his way to a World of Outlaws Late Model Series victory on Saturday night at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway and opened a big lead in the LaCrosse Footwear Extreme Tough Challenge.

Clanton became the first driver to top an Extreme Tough Challenge event twice this year, and in doing so has a 6-point advantage over fellow World of Outlaws Late Model Series competitors Steve Francis and Josh Richards. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series has run three Extreme Tough Challenge events, while the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series has run two events so far.

"We've gotten off to a pretty good start with this LaCrosse Extreme Tough Challenge," said Clanton, of Fayetteville, Ga. "If we can keep on putting together good finishes in these LaCrosse races, we should be right there in the points race at the end of the year. It sure would be cool to win it."

Francis and Richards finished second and third at Tazewell, as Chub Frank and Rick Eckert earned the remaining Extreme Tough Challenge points.

Kasey Kahne Racing's Joey Saldana is the leading World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series driver in the Extreme Tough Challenge. Through five events (three Late Model races, two Sprint Car races), 16 different drivers have earned points.

The Extreme Tough Challenge features 16 overall events - eight per series - where drivers who are competing full-time in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series or the World of Outlaws Late Model Series earn points toward the championship, which will be decided at the World of Outlaws World Finals in November at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. The top five finishers no matter the series will share a $15,000 point fund, and the winning driver will receive the Extreme Tough Challenge champion trophy.

Also, at each Extreme Tough Challenge event, LaCrosse will distribute keepsake posters as well as provide hat and t-shirt giveaways. Fans can get involved at every race through a unique Extreme Tough competition with the chance to win a pair of LaCrosse boots.

LaCrosse Footwear develops performance footwear and apparel designed to help users dominate their ground in work and recreation. LaCrosse boots, including the Extreme Tough™ line, can be found at premium retailers such as Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain.

Ryan Glenski Wins Wild Southeast LLM Race!

Timmonsville, SC (July 4th, 2010) -- Twenty Five cars where on hand for the first race in the new Southeast Limited Late Model Tour.  Only 10 finished.  16 cautions where thrown Sunday with 3 red flags also thrown.  It was a demo derby like we've never seen.  After all was said and done though, Ryan Glenski survived the one hundred lap affair to claim the first checkered flag in the new series.  Local favorite Averitt Lucas charged at the end of the race but came up just short of the win and finished second.  Chris Chapman who was fast all weekend came home third.  Two drivers suffered from dehydration.  Cory Joyce and AJ Sanders both where checked and released from the race track ambulance.

Todd Chappell claimed the Stock 4 Cylinder race which saw Michael Grooms take a wild ride down the frontstretch.  Trying to get by the lapped car of Corey Weatherford, Grooms and Weatherford made contact sending Grooms hard into the frontstretch wall.  Grooms car then turned over on it's roof and came to a stop at the start/finish line.  The driver was ok but shaken up a bit.  Bobby Tumbleston Jr. came home second followed by Russ Turner Jr.

Brad Dewitt claimed the Super Stock division over Curtis Peoples and Ken McClary

Motorcycling: Lorenzo storms to third straight win

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/images/2010/07/05/20100705_13.jpgMADRID: Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo was the runaway winner of the Catalan MotoGP on Sunday, a third consecutive victory extending his world championship lead. The Yamaha rider finished almost five seconds ahead of compatriot and title rival Dani Pedrosa, who held off the persistent challenge of Australia’s Casey Stoner to take second place by two-tenths of a second. Lorenzo moved on to 165 points after seven races, 52 ahead of Pedrosa. Italian Andrea Dovizioso, who had been battling for first place before falling, finished 14th and is third with 91 points. Champion Valentino Rossi, who is recovering from a broken leg, slipped to down seventh with 61 points.

“It was a very difficult race, very hot, and very tiring. The tyres were a real problem,” Lorenzo told Spanish state television. “Andrea (Dovizioso) was pushing hard and I thought it was going to be like that all the way but he fell which made it easier.” Pedrosa had been fastest in the morning warm-up and flew from fourth on the grid to first going into the opening bend, but a braking problem forced him to balloon wide and he dropped way down the order. He quickly recovered ground and after five laps was back up to third, though some distance behind Honda team mate Dovizioso and Lorenzo, who were tussling for the lead.

Slid off: Dovizioso was right on Lorenzo’s tail when he slid off into the gravel with 11 laps to go, leaving the focus on Pedrosa and Stoner’s battle for second place. The Ducati rider pressured Pedrosa over the last 12 laps but was unable to find a way through. Frenchman Randy de Puniet came in a distant fourth ahead of Spaniard Alvaro Bautista and American Ben Spies. The Moto2 event was marred by a mass pile-up on the first bend and won by Japan’s Yuki Takahashi on a Tech 3, after race leader Andrea Iannone was forced to take a ride-through penalty for overtaking when the yellow flag was out. He finished 13th.

Swiss Thomas Luthi was second and Spaniard Julian Simon third. Spaniard Carmelo Morales needed medical treatment after a spectacular crash on the finishing line. Spaniard Toni Elias, who finished fifth, leads Luthi by 17 points in the standings with Simon third. In the 125cc category. Spaniard Marc Marquez, 17, became the youngest rider to register four consecutive Grand Prix wins, beating the record previously held by Valentino Rossi. The Derbi rider came in ahead of Britain’s Bradley Smith and Spaniard Pol Espargaro and climbed to the top of the world championship standings. Previous leader Nicolas Terol fell during the last lap of the race.
