www.RacersReunionRadio.com: 7:00
p.m. Thurs. Jan. 28
Guests will be The Entire crew of History Channel's TV Series
MADHOUSE: Burt and Jason Myers, Tim Brown, Junior Miller and Chris Fleming.
Jerry Smith will be the referee, and no holds barred.
NASCAR Champion and ESPN commentator
Rusty Wallace will be on hand for this weekend's SpeedFest
at Lanier. Fetured races are the CRA Super Series
Late Models in a 250-lap battle and Pro Late Models in a 150-lap tilt. Rusty will be on hand to support his son and
NASCAR Nationwide driver Steven Wallace for this weekend's event. Both Wallace's will be accessible to the fans
during Sunday's activities.
The NASCAR connections continue to
grow for the traditional Super Late Model season opener. Besides the Wallaces,
those participating in SpeedFest with deep NASCAR
ties include Kyle Busch, David Ragan, David Stremme,
Bill Elliott as car owner for son Chase, Dave Blaney
as car owner for son Ryan, and Ritchie Wauters as
owner and crew chief for son Spencer.
The
stellar field of drivers from all over the country will be part of an on-track
autograph session on Sunday at 12:30 prior to the green flag dropping on 400
laps of racing action.
NASCAR Star Kyle Busch, the SpeedFest 2009 winner, comes into the SpeedFest
event as the favorite after winning the Winchester (IN) 400.
Other
drivers entered for SpeedFest who competed in the
Winchester 400 include Jason Dietsch who finished
fourth in the 400, Chase Elliott who finished eighth, Jeff Fultz who finished
14th, Nick Lay who finished 16th, John VanDoorn who
finished 23rd, Stanley Smith who finished 25th, Scott Hantz
who finished 26th, and Johanna Long who finished 31st.
Bobby Gill has entered the CRA race,
driving the #51 Super Late Model owned by SPEED broadcaster Bob Dillner. Gill drove the car to fourth at the Snowball
Derby. Michael Pope drove the car to fifth last year at Speedfest.
TJ Reaid,
who finished third in points in the Georgia Asphalt Series, in the ASA
Southeast Asphalt Series, and in the Snowflake at Five Flags in 2009, has
entered, and has weekend sponsorship from Comfort Inn and Suites of Buford
(I-985 at Exit 8).
Jason Hogan, of Cleveland, has a new
motor package for his Chevy, and hopes to improve on his 2009 second place.
“Well me and Kyle know each other pretty well," says Hogan, "and
everyone from the pits to the grandstands knows he is the guy to beat no matter
where or what series he races in. For me, last year it was a disappointment ...
no matter whom it was to. To beat Kyle will take a lot but I’m pretty confident
we can get it done." Hogan is also helping prepare David Hole's car, and
mentoring young Dalton Grindle. www.jasonhogan.com
2009 ASA Late Model Challenge Series
champion Brian Campbell and his Perfect Circle Racing team are
entered, and the CRA entry list had 32 cars 10 days ago.
The CRA portion of SpeedFest 2010 will be 250 laps with a break at lap
125 for teams to work on their cars and
change tires.
It will be an eight tire event. The leader at lap 125 will receive a $2000
bonus, the second place driver $1000, third place will receive $750, fourth
place $500 and fifth place $250. The halfway leader will then draw for an
invert for the start of the second half, the invert
could be a three to a possible six. The winner of the event will receive $8000.
The 150 lap Pro Late Model event,
which follows the CRA race, will pay $3000 to win. There will be a $10,000
bonus if a driver can win both events!
There will be an open practice on
Friday. Practice and qualifying will take place on Saturday. The CRA feature
starts at 2:00 Sun.

Speed 51 Radio, and www.RaceTalkRadio.com
will have
live coverage of both Sunday races. www.lanierspeedway.com
The 6th Annual Super Bowl of Racing
at Golden Isles Speedway, in Brunswick, is this weekend. The Super Bowl always
attracts dirt racing's biggest names who stop on their
way to Florida's winter races.
Last year, the winners were Chris Madden,
Scott Bloomquist, and Randle Chupp,
and they'll probably be back, chasing the larger purses for 2010.
It opens Thursday with two late model
Touring Sanctioned Events, kicking off three consecutive days of racing action
featuring the cars and stars of The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series and
The National Late Model Series.
Thursday is a $7,500 to win SAS
Super Late Model Main Event and a The National Late Model Series $3,000 to win
event. Grandstands $25 and reserve seating is $30.
On Friday, a $10,000 to win Main
Event for SAS Late Models will headline the ticket with the NLMS also in action
for another $3,000 to win affair. Grandstands $25 and reserve seating is $35.
The three-day extravaganza wraps up
on Saturday night with a $12,000 to win Main Event for The Southern All Stars
and another $3,000 to win event for the National Late Models Series.
Grandstands $30 and reserve seating is $35.
2009 NLMS Super Bowl winners William

Former Sugar Creek promoter
('04-'05) Timmy Millwood, of Cumming, will promote races at North Georgia
Speedway this year. His agreement with Diane (widow of Raymond Young) and
Fletcher Young, the track owners, is for four years, with an option for four
more.
The Southern All Stars already has
May 8th at North Georgia Speedway, $5,000 to win, on their schedule.
For the past 18 months or so,
Cleveland (TN) Speedway promoter Monty Morrow was the track operator, and attempted
unsuccessfully to make it into a Friday night track.
Fans know that the track needs more
lights and a better sound system, and Millwood plans to add lights and a new PA
system.
Millwood has been a winning econo bomber driver at Dixie and nearby tracks, and drove a
crate car while he was promoting Sugar Creek. He says he knows racers Travis
and Tyler Millwood, but they are "no kin."
North Georgia Speedway is a 1/3 mile
banked track near Chatsworth, which has hosted both World of Outlaws and Lucas
Oil LM series in recent years. Both fans and drivers like the track, but past
track prep issues, a mid-season change of management in 2008, and poor
promotion put Millwood in a hole to start 2010.
The Racing Forums have had a lot of praise for his days at Sugar Creek,
which ended when his wife and
co-worker had health
problems. http://www.northgeorgiaspeedway.net/
Earlier this winter, Florida racer,
team owner, and businessman Gary Fountain, along with his wife Nanette,
purchased the assets of the
former Georgia Asphalt Series and re-named
it simply the GAS Series.
However,
Several rumors spread in recent days about the new GAS
Series already out of business and up for sale.
Fountain admitted that he, along
with longtime short track promoter Terry Roberts, had tried to set a 2010
schedule when they purchased the series, but because the purchase was finalized
after many other touring Late Model series and tracks in the Southeast had set
their schedule, most appetizing dates had already been booked up.
Therefore, Fountain said that he
plans on several races in 2010, likely two to three at tracks and dates to be
determined, with an eye towards a more diverse and lengthy schedule in
2011. The 2010 events, if sponsorship is
secured (which Roberts and other GAS officials are currently in the works on),
will be large-purse events, which as Fountain said, "will
make it worth teams coming to race with us."
Fountain also stressed that he is a
racer at heart, not a businessman looking to make a buck on the series, so he
will do what he can to make as many cars compete under
one common set of rules as possible in the Southeast and will not make promises
he can not keep.

Reed Sorenson, of Peachtree City,
will pilot a Braun Racing Toyota sponsored by Dollar General in five 2010
Sprint Cup races, as the team tests the waters for a possible jump to full-time
competition in 2011.
Sorenson's
schedule begins with the Daytona 500 and includes the Kobalt
Tools 500 at Atlanta in March, Chicagoland in July,
the Brickyard 400, and the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte in October.
Sorenson and Brian Vickers will
share the Braun ride in the Nationwide Series during the season.
Atlanta Motor Speedway has expanded
its list of partner hotels to more than 30 properties for the March 5-7 Kobalt Tools 500 race weekend, each featuring room rates of
$120 or less without requiring a multi-night stay. 12 feature rates of less than $80 for a
single-night stay.
Tickets for Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 start at only $39 with student tickets
only $19.
AMS's Ted Austad
reminds us that Children ages 12 and under will be admitted for FREE on
Saturday, March 6, for the Atlanta 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race,
and the final two rounds of practice
for Sunday’s big showdown! \
In addition to NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series Qualifying during Georgia Power Qualifying Night on Friday, March 5,
race fans will also witness NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice, and a
150-lap NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race on
Atlanta’s quarter-mile “Thunder Ring.”

Joining Grill and the “Alabama Posse” at Montgomery will be John Bolen,
from Jasper, Hunter Robbins, from Montgomery, and Justin Bonnett,
of Hueytown. Challenges will come from
the Georgia Gang of Bubba Pollard, T. J. Reaid, Chase
Elliott, and rookie Kristen Wallace, the only female Late Model driver
competing at Montgomery.
The All American 400, billed by the
late Bob Harmon as “The Greatest Short Track Race In
America,” has been trademarked by Bobby Knox and Montgomery Motor
Speedway. The 400-lap Super Late Model
race will bring the greatest asphalt racing venue ever to the track once owned
by Harmon from 1959 – 1973. A Pro Late
Model event, on Saturday, will precede the All American 400 on Sunday. The New
All American 400 is scheduled for September 16-18 at Montgomery. The past races
have been run at Nashville's Fairgrounds track.

fund check. Varney told Speed51.com that
teams were issued vouchers at the banquet which can be exchanged for cash,
products or services.
"Varney also said that during a
time when many series are facing tough economic times, that
he wanted to give his competitors an option of how to be paid. Varney also told Speed51.com that
preparations for the 2010 season are underway and right on track." www.Speed51.com

After being named by SceneDaily.com
as one of ten drivers of the next decade in NASCAR, 14-year-old Chase Elliott
is ready to prove he’s worthy of the designation as he kicks off the 2010
season. His schedule includes 40 Pro and
Super Late Model races at 17 different tracks across the Midwest and Southeast.
The
2009 Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) Champion will make runs for the Blizzard
Series and Miller Lite Series titles at sister tracks
Five Flags Speedway (Pensacola, Fla.) and Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway,
which will also put him in the running for the Gulf Coast Championship that
combines both series into one title.
Coming
off four wins in 2009 in three series – GAS, ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour and Pro
All Stars Series (PASS), Elliott’s 2010 schedule includes runs in six different
series. Elliott also has several “big
name” races scheduled throughout the year, including his season-opener, the
CRA-sanctioned SpeedFest at Lanier, January 31, The
Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway, Rowdy’s Revenge 251 at Berlin Speedway
(Marne, Mich.); the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park, and the
Snowball Derby.
“I
am really looking forward to 2010,” said Elliott. “We learned a lot last year and still have a
ton to go, but I think that if we can put what we learned into this year as
well I believe that would make us
more competitive at the bigger
races.” www.ChaseElliott.com

At 14 years old, Dylan Ames has
completed his third year in a Legends car with some terrific stats. Ames qualified on the pole 3 times, won
8
Heat races and won 11 Feature events while only running a 33 race schedule in
2009. At the season finale Legends National, Ames was 2nd fast qualifier out of
53 Pro contenders and Won the Race of Champions against the nation’s best. Over his 3 years in a Legend car, Ames ran
121
Feature Events with 32 Feature wins, 21 Heat Race
wins, 12 Fast Qualifiers and 77 top 5’s.
Ames is definitely ready for the next level.
Ames began evaluating the options
for the road ahead. Given the unstable
economy and its impact on asphalt short tracks, the investment in an asphalt
late model operation did not appear to be the best option for the family funded
team. Many local asphalt tracks and
regional series were unable to complete their scheduled events in 2009. Given the substantial investment needed to
run competitively in asphalt late models and the uncertainties with the tracks
and series, Dylan Ames Racing is headed to the Dirt track to run a Late Model
in 2010.
Dylan has proven himself in each
level of racing so far and is excited at the chance to compete in a full size
late model on dirt. Ames started to
prepare for the 2010 season by purchasing a complete Rocket chassis from Clint
Bowyer Racing. Dylan also completed the
McDowell / Cook Driving School in Chattanooga TN - getting his feet wet
(literally) in understanding dirt and the cars while making
valuable connections with 2 of the best in the business. Ames did a terrific job his fist day in the
car and is looking forward to racing and learning throughout the year ahead.
For the 2010 season, Ames is making
plans to run at Boyd's Speedway, Cleveland Speedway, Green Valley Speedway,
Moulton, Talladega Short Track, and others.
Dylan is excited about the 2010
season and the new challenges it
brings, as he heads to the dirt tracks. http://www.dylanames.com
